Ski resort Pamporovo lies in the heart of Rhodopi Mountain, better known as the Orpheus’s mountain, at the foot of Snezhanka peak. Pamporovo is located 260 km away from Sofia city, 85km south of Plovdiv, 15km away from the picturesque Smolyan and only 10km south of Chepelare.Pamporovo is located at an altitude of 1650m. There are more than 240 sunny days in Pamporovo, so you will be able to combine your winter vacation with a sunny getaway and come back home with a lovely sun-tan. Pamporovo and all surrounding pistes, starting from Shezhanka Peak, are located amidst venerable fir trees. Pamporovo is an ideal choice for all fans of winter sports and travellers who seek coolness in the hot summer months.

Pamporovo has a beneficial climate. The ski season in Pamporovo starts in the middle of December and ends in mid April, because the Aegean influences can be felt in Pamporovo and they characterize the climate. The average annual temperature is 8.5 degrees Celsius. The thickness of the snow cover in winter is about 140-150cm and it can be retained for over 150 days per year.

Beginners:

Can start with the ski school of Pamporovo, which is quite famous with the quality tuition. Starting on the nursery slopes, after few days they will be able to ski on the higher ski runs.

Intermediate skiers

The total length of ski runs which are suitable for Intermedaites is approx. 20 km. These skiers can jump on the triple chairlift from the Malina station going to the top of Snejanka peak. Or, a single chair lift goes to the middle station, from where the new four persons lift runs up to the peak.

Advances skiers:

Can jump on the drag lift from the middle station which runs up the side of “The Wall”. It is the most difficult ski run in the resort. The other difficult piste starts from the TV tower, after the last station of the triple chair, go right, pistes called Snejanka.

The winter holiday resort Pamporovo offers very good conditions for practicing snowboard. The 6 ski lifts and the large number of ski runs make this resort very suitable for the fans of this sport. During year 2004, the first half-pipe ski track in Bulgaria was built in this resort, which is now a real attraction for extreme snowboard skaters and for those, who like amusement and tricks.
